27 Jun The Power of the English Longbow (35-160lb draw weight bows tested)
The English longbow is a legendary weapon, surrounded by both myth and truth, forever etched in history for its remarkable prowess on the battlefield, notably during the 100 Years War spanning the 14th and 15th centuries.
However, one may wonder about the true extent of these weapons of war, power.
In this video, we delve into the velocity and force with which traditional Longbows propel arrows.
Naturally, determining an exact answer is challenging due to numerous variables. Nevertheless, we have compiled 12 chronograph tests on bows ranging from 35 lbs to 160 lbs, charting their performance. By examining these findings, we can gain valuable insights into the capabilities of these archaic bows.
In addition to this test video, I have other test videos on my channel where we put some of these bows up against period-accurate armour, such as Shields, Gambeson armour, and Chain Mail armor.
