05 Apr Warbow vs Mail over 30-layer linen Gambeson Armour Test
In this video, we test an 87lb Warbow with a range of war arrows against mail armor over a sample of 30-layer Gambeson armor.
Arrows used include historically accurate replicas by Will Sherman and Quiverstock Arrows (Hector Cole arrowheads), as well as Arrows from Shire Archery
The Warbow is an 87-93lb Tri-Laminate, generating 60-71 J of (KE) made by Black Arrow Longbows
The Gambeson sample tested is from Steel Mastery

Based on the test, the mail appears to be of quite poor quality, doing little to add any significant protection above that of the Gambeson Sample.
This test highlights the importance of quality armor for effective results.
It also highlights the importance of arrow weights and arrowhead profiles for optimal performance in armor penetration.
